Beyond Expertise: Be the Jack of all trades

In a quaint village nestled amidst undulating hills, a young woman found herself captivated by the wonders of the world. She possessed an insatiable curiosity and a thirst for knowledge that seemed to know no bounds.

Growing up, she began to realize the significance of being a versatile player in the modern age. To thrive in such an environment she believed that being a jack of all trades would provide her with a distinct advantage. She embraced the idea that having a breadth of knowledge would fuel her creativity and foster problem-solving skills.

Fortunately, the education system began to recognize the importance of versatility. National Education Policy 2023 promotes multi-disciplinary learning, helping students be industrial and job ready. It’s like building a house by a civil engineer – while one can put up the walls and roof for him, the house won’t be livable until he knows all the other components of plumbing, wiring, and furniture are put in place. Similarly, a multi-disciplinary education provides the complete set of skills needed for success.

On World Youth Skills Day, we represent a diverse audience, passionately advocating for the importance of perpetual learning. Let’s emphasize the need to expand one’s skills beyond technical expertise and operational know-how. Like her we should believe that developing soft skills, vocational abilities, and people management acumen would make individuals more versatile and well-rounded in their personal and professional lives.

With each passing day, we all venture into new territories, pushing the boundaries of knowledge and skills. Through our commitment to perpetual learning, we all cultivated a thirst for knowledge that could not be quenched.
